Ric E Bluez " Lovin you aint easy" ( 2006 Betty Lowe Records cd)
A copy of this cd arrived back in January from my good friend Jim Wray but somehow it got lost in the deluge of music that arrived at that time, but slowly this head nodding ballad has garnered repeated plays and is currently sitting very near the top of the pile.I have since acquired a legit copy........I know nothing of this guy other than he is a very accomplished vocalist who has surrounded himself with some top players and created an in parts excellent album which as you would guess satisfies my ' southern ' craving. If you fancy this then contact Dave Porter at Vivid Sound as he's the only one supporting this set.
Joy Denalane " Something stirrin up" ( 2006 Nesola cd)
Oh wow, from the moment I heard this I was hooked, although the whole album has been plundered by every soul jock I know, its this ballad that seeped into my head from the first play and wont let go. There are some stunning moments on this album and everyone who has it undoubtedly will have a favourite, real contempory musicianship that paints a wonderful backdrop for this ladies soulfull vocals, several tracks have male raps but dont be put off, all have something worthy to add. This album has been in the car player for weeks now, love the nod to Johnny Nash half way through this epic tune. Mary J and Faith Evans are queens in my house, JD has put herself up there with them as a future automatic buy.The last time I was struck by a tune like this was back in 2004 when Teena Marie & DeDe O'Neil's "I love him too" was heard for the first time.
Sweet Angel " Easy loving you" (2007 cd no label details)
Iv been tracking this cd for some months now ever since it appeared in Daddy's southern top ten pre-releases, if you like Shirley Brown this excellent 10 tracker s a must. The album is titled "Another man's meat on my plate" but my fave track is a mid tempo sax driven dancer that I cant stop playing. Her voice is a very powerful tool she uses with consumate ease.Eight examples of story telling over a mainly synthesised backing, quite brilliant lyrically at times. Going to be a big cd in my house for years to come. I love it.
This months vinyl tip is aimed at lovers of deep and comes curtosy of Communicators & Black Experience Band "One chance" (Duplex 7" late 60's early 70's).An absolutely stunning example of this genre, group harmonies, swapping leads, simple instrumentation all create the ultimate tune.Came out on Turbo but the quality of the vinyl as with most releases on this label leves very little to be desired. This has also surfaced on a brilliant 36 track compilation titled "Tears full of soul" Basements David Cole selecting the tracks, a cd that should be acquired asap.

Sammy Campbell Suga, “Would Ya” (Hollygrove)
The Brooklyn label comes out with a 2 45s from the Del Larks man - this mellow 70's groover is the best and sees the light for the first time.

Ty Causey - Back to Loving You
Stunning piece of mid-tempo soul that is so more-ish. The album is very strong and "So Addicted" and "The Way You Are' challenged the selected track strongly.
Mr Sam - I'm Comin Home
Tremendous ballad from Sam Fallie better known for his song-writing skills.
Roi Anthony - Long Way From Home
What a great voice and what a track
Eddie Hubbard /Banbury Soul Club
Rozetta Johnson - You better keep what you got [ Shotgun ]
Rozetta's so soulful vocals was an ideal vehicle for Sam and Lillian Dees sensitive lyrics back in the early 70's , she only cut a handful of quality sides , so it's indeed great news that Paul Mooney has rescued this unissued dancer from the vaults .Deserves to become popular on all the varied Soul scenes in the UK and beyond , can't wait for the album " Personal Woman " too , which includes all her Clintone sides .
Susan Phillips - He's gone [ Tears full of soul CD ]
One of many brilliant slowies on this fantastic new double CD from Sanctuary records , another key track is Lezli Valentine's take on The Moments " Love on a two way street " , and can't forget Linda Jones still amazing " I can't make it alone " the ultimate in abandoned wailing - unbelievable !!
Jesse James - It's the last time around for me [South Side Soul Survey CD ]
Always loved Morris Jefferson's version of this song , this is an unissued version by the ever brilliant Jesse James , which has emerged on this superb new CD from Garry Capes new Soulscape outlet .There are so many great CD's around at the moment , it's hard to keep up , though we wouldn't have it any other way !!
Best Wishes ,Eddie Hubbard

Gerald Dimitri “Falling In Love” (Destiny)
I’ve been looking through some old LP’s from the 90’s and came across this album vocals by “Al Broomfield” this is a mellow jazzy song with a lovely feel to it.
Brenda Lee Eager “Love In Motion” (BMP)
Forgotten how wonderful this track was. Again not played this since it appeared in the 90’s. Superb vocal performance and one of my favourite 90’s tunes.
George Butts “Keep That Same Old Feeling” (K-Star)
Back into the 80’s with this one. Yes another version of a great song. If you, like me, love 80’s quality soul, this is another welcome addition to the collection.
